President
and Founder
Janet Shaw is formerly a Zimbabwean,
now living in Placitas, New Mexico. She is the Founder and
President of the Board of Directors for the Goromonzi Project.
Prior to starting this project she owned several businesses
and was a business coach. Her interest in the children of
Goromonzi started when she visited the area in September
2005. “I want everyone
to see Africa as a vibrant continent full of possibility, and
that these are extraordinary children who enrich our lives
and the lives of our children.”

Corresponding Secretary
Patti Smith is from the Farmington/Aztec
area of New Mexico. She
is a professional in the field of education and community development
and currently works with the Head Start program (a US program
for low-income children and their families) nationally. Patti
traveled to Goromonzi in August 2006 with founder Janet Shaw
to facilitate Appreciative Inquiry meetings and to participate
in Activity Days for the children.
Medical Advisor
Penny
Lindgren, M.D. is an anesthesiologist.
She has special interest in the need for physicians, and particularly
for anesthesiologists, worldwide. She is on the Goromonzi Project
Committee for Feeding and Educating Orphans and Vulnerable
Children.
Board Member
Karen Sibbett is
a retired semiconductor engineer and manager. Since
2000, she has spent her time raising her two sons with her
husband Scott and doing community service work. She was
introduced to the Goromonzi Project through Penny Lindgren
and joined the board in December, 2006. She has experience
in project management and team development.
Board Member
Sandra Khumalo was born and raised in
Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. She is now living in Albuquerque, New Mexico
with her husband and two children. Sandra is currently taking
business classes at UNM. She is passionate about her work on
the board of the Goromonzi Project. AIDS has affected her directly,
as she has lost more than 6 cousins and an aunt to the disease.
Sandra insists that it does not matter what one gives or does
towards helping those affected by this pandemic. She says, “Every
little drop in the ocean counts!”

Legal Advisor
Stevan J. Schoen, Esq. lives in Placitas,
New Mexico. He has served on many boards in New Mexico. He
and his wife, Cynthia Schoen, have worked behind the scenes
to give The Goromonzi Project a good start.
